Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve noticed that some of the Garden Furnishings I am interested in are not available in the finish I would like. Can I have my selection repainted?

We take care to select quality products that have been professionally finished. Any changes to the materials or finish of our products will null and void the manufacturers warranty.

Why have Eucalyptus pieces been selected for outdoor furnishings?

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an organization that works with businesses throughout Europe, South America and the United States to promote sustainable forestry. Companies earn FSC certification by conserving diverse forests, protecting animal habitats, reducing waste and maintaining the economic and social well-being of local communities. We are proud to offer furniture and garden products with the FSC seal. It assures you that you are buying quality wood products while helping to preserve the world’s forests.

How do I care for Eucalyptus furniture?

In order to maintain the appearance and extend the life of your furniture, please follow these general instructions for care and maintenance. A surface coating is vital for the protection of your furniture. A regularly maintained finish will help protect it from moisture, premature darkening, or splitting when exposed to weather. Untreated furniture will turn color and develop cracks. Also, it is important to store your furniture under cover during severe weather and in the winter. Wood can shrink and expand with changes in humidity and temperature. These are natural occurrences and do not effect the stability of the furniture.

How do I maintain the Eucalyptus furniture?

Maintain the appearance of your furniture with regular coatings, once or twice a year, with a penetrating oil or other suitable coatings. Look for a product that is recommended for outdoor furniture. Products containing antifungal and UV inhibitors can provide added protection. Be aware that surface preparation for bare, weathered, or previously finished wood varies. Always follow the instructions provided by the coating manufacturer. During the application of the finish, particular care should be given to the ends of the wood parts and any joints.

How do I care for the painted birdhouse and pedestal that I’ve been given?

These products have been finished in a non-toxic, oil based paint. Because these bird homes are intended for use with wildlife, no pressure-treated woods or harmful chemicals have been applied. Homes with cedar shingles will naturally patina to a silvery gray due to sun exposure. Pedestals should be placed on a flat, dry surface, such as stone or cement. To best preserve the painted finish of the birdhouse, pedestal or feeder, select a polyurethane product that has been recommended for marine use. It should be UV rated so that the applied white finish will not yellow. Once left outside, you should expect that these products will weather and require refinishing.

How do I care for the statuary?

These may be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth.

How do I care for a wrought iron piece?

Iron is powder-coated to resist rust. If rust develops sand the area with sand paper and use Rustoleum flat black spray paint for the black iron and hammered black for the graphite items.

How do I determine which size glove is right for me?

GLOVE SIZE is either something long forgotten, or never known. In any case, here’s all you do: Measure around the knuckles of your writing hand with a soft tape measurer. Use the chart below to get an approximate glove size. Our gloves are made to fit snug, but not tight. The mesh back stretches with your hand movements to avoid bagging and rubbing which can cause blisters. If your measurement is on the cusp, size down.

WOMEN’S AND MEN’S sizing differ in circumference and finger length. At WCG a Women’s Large has the same circumference as a Men’s Medium, but the fingers are 1/8” longer to accommodate fingernails.

Garden Pot & Planter FAQ's

I noticed that there are no drainage holes in the fiberglass copper planters Have you thought about putting some in?

We do not put in drainage holes because some of our clients would prefer to use our planters as decorative cachepots. If you choose to plant directly into the pot, you should first use a regular household drill with a 1- 2” wood drill bit to allow for drainage in the bottom. Simply turn the planter over, placing it on a non-abrasive, secure surface and drill downward into the planter base. As with all drilling, be sure to take any necessary safety precautions, including, but not limited to, wearing safety goggles.

Are your planters for indoor or outdoor use?

Because these are made of fiberglass, they are for use in either an indoor or outdoor setting and will not crack under tough winter climates. If however, you decide to leave your planter outdoors, be sure to add a drainage hole(s).

Will the copper color chip or scratch?

A proprietary process has been used to finish the planter with a layer of real copper. Each planter is then coated with a protective sealant. Under normal care the copper should not chip or scratch. However, under certain abusive circumstances, it can occur. As with other valuable items, please use care when moving and handling your planters to maintain their longevity.

Special care should be taken to prevent the copper-finished base of the planter from scratches or chipping.
Be sure not to drag the planter across hard, rough surfaces such as cement or rocks.

Should you discover a chip or scratch, make sure not to pick at the affected area, for that may aggravate the problem. Instead, immediately use epoxy or other bonding glue made for use with fiberglass products to repair the chip or scratch.

Will the color fade? Do I need to polish my flowerpot often?

The copper finish will not fade, but because it is real copper, it will continue to patina and change color as it ages.

To restore the shine, buff out minor blemishes, or adjust the patina, gently rub your planter with a stiff rag or fine steel wool (#000). After buffing or cleaning your planter, you can apply a hard floor wax spray, clear acrylic paint or silicone sealer to slow down patina development.
